Post-Operative Instructions
Tooth Extraction
First 24 Hours
-
Bite gently on the gauze for 30–45 minutes to control bleeding.

Avoid rinsing, spitting forcefully, or using straws.

Do not smoke for at least 48 hours.

Apply a cold compress on the outside of the face for 15 minutes on / 15 minutes off to reduce swelling.​
Pain Management
-
Take prescribed medications as directed.
-
Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help reduce discomfort. Take 600-800mg ibuprofen and 500mg tylenol together.

Eating
-
Eat soft foods such as yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes, smoothies, cold soft foods help.
-
Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods for the first 24–48 hours.

Oral Hygiene
-
Brush normally but avoid the extraction area.
-
After 3 days post extraction, rinse gently with warm salt water (½ teaspoon salt in a cup of warm water).
Call us immediately if you experience

Excessive bleeding
-
Severe swelling
-
Fever
-
Persistent severe pain after 3 days
Emergency Root Canal
After Treatment

Mild soreness is normal for 2–3 days.

Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until the permanent restoration is placed.

Maintain normal brushing and flossing.
Pain Relief

Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications can help.

If swelling or severe pain occurs, contact our office immediately.
Temporary Filling or Crown
Temporary restorations protect your tooth until permanent treatment is completed.
Care Tips

Avoid sticky foods such as gum or caramel.

Avoid chewing hard foods on the treated tooth.

If the temporary restoration falls out, contact us as soon as possible.
Toothache / Dental Infection
Pain from a dental infection may continue briefly after emergency treatment.
Important steps

Take antibiotics exactly as prescribed.

Continue pain medication as directed.
-
Maintain good oral hygiene.
-
Schedule follow-up treatment if recommended.
